Things to Consider Before Installing Replacement Windows

These days, do-it-yourself is a popular mantra for many home renovation projects. We assure you this does not apply to window installation. Simply put, installing replacement windows is not a job for amateurs. It can cost you thousands of dollars quickly and on a continuing basis due to improper fit, high energy bills and weather damage to the inside of your home. As a result, it is always best to find a local window installation company with factory-trained professionals. If you do decide to tackle window installation yourself, keep in mind the following:

  • Windows should always be installed level, plumb and square.
  • Improper fits allow air intrusion and water infiltration.
  • Always take exact measurements.
  • Be sure you start with the right tools so that your installation project doesn’t drag on and unnecessarily expose your home to inclement weather.
  • Make sure your fit & finish are perfect every time.
  • If your home has window openings that are not square, you may need to adjust them which can involve trimming, restoration or creation of new surfaces and finishes.

The Window Installation Process: What to Expect

Once you’ve selected your new replacement windows, it’s time to get them installed. At RoMac, we make window installation as simple, easy and stress-free as possible. Although every project is unique, here’s what to generally expect from the window installation process:

Window Installation Prep

Prior to installation, you’ll be asked to prep your home by:

  • Removing drapes, shades and blinds
  • Clearing space around the interior and exterior of your windows
  • Designating preferred entry /exit routes for installers
  • Making sure children and pets are safely out of the way

Installation Day

On installation day, our certified window installers will arrive at your home, perform a site inspection, provide a recap of the process and estimated completion time, and answer any additional questions you might have. Most installations can be done in 1- 3 days, depending on the size of your project.

Old Window Removal | Protecting Your Home

Our installers will put down drop cloths to keep your home clean and get out their tools and materials. They’ll remove your old windows, being very careful to protect your home’s interior and exterior including paint, trim and walls.

Installing, Sealing & Capping Your New Windows

Once your old windows are removed, our professional installers will put your new windows in. They will insulate and seal your windows, while capping the exteriors.

Installation Clean Up & Inspection

Upon completion, our project foreman will perform a final inspection to ensure perfect fit and finish, or schedule any follow-up work that may be required. They’ll pick up their drop cloths, put away their tools and carefully clean their work spaces.
