The RoMac Legacy Series: 80 Years of Building Community

For 80 years, RoMac Building Supply has been more than a name in Central Florida. It has been a family story rooted in hard work, resilience, and community. To celebrate this milestone, we created the RoMac Legacy Series, a three-part look at the people who built, rebuilt, and continue to grow our company.

In part one, Dan Robuck Sr. reflected on RoMac’s beginnings and the strength of the community that helped the company rebuild after the 1972 fire. In part two, CEO Don Magruder shared how he has served as the bridge between RoMac’s proud past and its promising future. In this final story, President Dan Robuck III looks ahead, carrying the lessons of two generations before him while continuing to build opportunity and community for the next.

Continuing the Family Legacy: Dan Robuck III and the Future of RoMac Building Supply

When you ask Dan Robuck III, President of RoMac Building Supply, about his earliest memories of the company, his answer is simple.

“The first thing I can remember is dusting our shelves,” he says. “I don’t know how old I was, but it’s one of my earliest memories. I got twenty-five cents an hour to dust the shelves. I think it was just something to do while my dad worked on the weekends, but it taught me the value of hard work.”

That work ethic, learned as a child in the family business, has guided Dan throughout his life. Now, as the third generation to lead RoMac, he carries both a deep sense of gratitude and a humble awareness of the responsibility that comes with an 80-year legacy.

A Legacy to Uphold

“I got the easy part,” Dan says with a smile. “They say the first generation starts it, the second builds it, and the third squanders it. So all I have to do is not mess it up.”

While said in jest, Dan takes the responsibility of leadership seriously. For him, continuing the RoMac legacy means honoring those who came before him while building on their foundation for future generations.

“I’m so fortunate to step into this company at the point it is today,” he reflects. “Of course, my grandfather and my dad played huge roles in that, but it’s also the leaders we’ve had through the years and the thousands of employees who have helped RoMac grow. I wake up every day thinking about how to keep it going, how to make sure we continue to impact people, whether it’s our employees, our customers, or our vendors.”

Built on People and Community

Throughout its 80 years, RoMac has remained grounded in one belief: when you take care of people, success follows.

“I love the ability to really impact people’s lives,” Dan says. “That goes back to the lessons I learned growing up. It’s not just about the numbers. It’s about focusing on the community, on our employees, and on our customers. If we take care of those things and think long term, everything else will work out.”

For Dan, community involvement is inseparable from RoMac’s identity. “It just goes hand in hand with who we are as a company. There’s never really a question of whether we should be involved. We know that without a strong community, there is no RoMac.”

That commitment extends throughout Central Florida, in Lake, Marion, and Sumter Counties, where RoMac has deep roots and a shared stake in the region’s growth.

Growth with Purpose

While RoMac continues to expand its reach, Dan is clear that growth is not about becoming the biggest supplier in Florida. It is about creating opportunity.

“I don’t want to be the biggest,” he explains. “But I do want to continue to grow, because growth allows us to create opportunities for our employees to reach their full potential. Without growth, that’s hard to do.”

Dan sees Central Florida as a place full of potential, a thriving, growing region where RoMac can continue to make an impact. “We’re in the best location in the United States. The opportunities for growth right here locally are unlimited. We’re not trying to be the best for everyone everywhere, but in our part of the world, we want to be the best we can be.”

Honoring the Past, Building the Future

Eighty years after Dan’s grandfather and great-uncles first purchased a small building supply business in Leesburg, RoMac remains guided by the same values that defined its earliest days: hard work, trust, and community.

For Dan Robuck III, continuing that legacy means looking forward, not only preserving what was built but ensuring that it continues to thrive for generations to come.

“Our success has always been about people,” he says. “If we take care of our employees, our customers, and our community, the rest takes care of itself.”
