RoMac Media recently sat down with the Scott family to talk about a business shaped by hard work, family involvement, and a deep respect for customers. Their roofing company has served the community for decades, growing carefully while holding onto the values that started it all.

For Tommy Scott, the industry was never a question of if, but when. “I was about eight years old when I started going with my dad on the weekends to do repair work,” he said. Roofing became part of his life early. “By the time I was 16, I was actually selling for us after school. By the time I graduated at 18, I was actually running the day-to-day operations, helping run everything.”

Learning the Business Young
Tommy credits his long-term commitment to enjoying the work itself. “I just enjoyed the challenges every day that the roofing industry put on us. You’re somewhere different, and you’re always talking to somebody different.” Advice from longtime customers stayed with him. “The older customers I listened to always said find something you love to do, and if you do, it will not be like going to work every day.”

That message stuck. “I knew I was all in because I enjoyed what I did and I truly loved it.”
Putting Customers First Every Time
That passion carries into how the company treats homeowners. “The customer is number one,” Tommy said. “We really pride ourselves in taking care of our customers in the best way we can and giving them quality. So if there’s a problem, I’m there to take care of it right away.”
Tyler Scott has seen that dedication up close. “My dad’s a grinder. He gets up at 4 a.m. every day, and he grinds every single day. That’s an awesome trait that I’ve learned from him.”

What motivates Tyler most is helping people navigate major decisions. “What excites me about what we do is just being able to help the customers.” The company offers full roofing services, including repairs, residential systems, commercial work, metal roofing, and flat systems. Even when a project falls outside their scope, Tyler said, “We’ve got great connections in the industry. We’ve got the answers. We’ve got the solutions. We can always get it done.”
Respecting the Investment
Sarah Scott Varnadore discussed the responsibilities that come with roofing. “A roof is a huge investment, and we don’t take that lightly. We completely understand what goes into that and how big of a deal that is for people to be making and to be paying for.”

Every call is meaningful. “We’re honored every time a customer calls us and gives us the opportunity to be your roofer.” The commitment does not end when the job does. “Not only are we taking care of your family now, but for the next few decades, we plan to be taking care of your family.”
A Company That Operates Like a Family
For the Scotts, the sense of family extends beyond bloodlines. “Everybody calls it a team, but even our employees are like family to us,” Tommy said. Many have stayed for decades. “They’ve been with me ten years to thirty-two years. We treat them like family. They take care of us. They’ve got our back.”

That loyalty matters. “It makes me feel good they still want to do it right, even after all these years and the experience they have.”
Honesty remains central to how the company operates. “If we tell you something, it’s the truth,” Tommy said. “If you only need a repair, we’re going to tell you that. If you need a new roof, we’ll tell you that. And we pride ourselves on it.” That approach has never changed. “We’ve never lost that small-town feel of taking care of customers.”
JoAnne Scott described the family's continued involvement in daily operations. “I think we’re very old school. We still do a lot of things very hands-on. Someone in our family, and sometimes multiple people in our family, touch every job.” Customers notice the difference. “I think our customers really appreciate that.”

Built on Trust and Easy to Recognize
The family takes standing behind the work seriously. “We’ve always stood behind our products. We’ve always stood behind our employees and our workmanship,” Tyler said. “That’s the trust that we’ve built. Knowing that you’ve been there, you’ve done it, and you continue to do it the right way definitely means a lot to people.”

The company has become recognizable throughout the community, often before introductions happen. Sarah shared, “Half the time, the first question out of their mouth is this is the Scotts Roofing with the orange and blue trucks. Right?” Those colors stand out. “That is how identifiable we are from our colors.”

The story behind them still makes her laugh. “My grandfather was a diehard Seminoles fan, so the fact that he ever incorporated orange and blue is still a mystery to me.” What mattered most was being noticed. “He wanted something that would catch people’s eyes, and the orange and blue definitely does that.”
Looking Ahead Without Losing Focus
For Tommy, the future is personal. “I’m the most proud of the kids being involved with me now and my wife working with them. They’re doing a great job.” He sees the next chapter clearly. “I really feel they’re going to take it to another level like I did my father.”

Fifty years in, the foundation remains strong. “We’re still 50 years strong. Same family. Trusted in the community. Big time.” Growth is intentional and measured. “As we grow, we grow smart. Not to lose our customer base, our focus. I think we’ve done that so far. And it looks really good for the future with the kids coming up through here.”
