RoMac's Marketing Team sat down with Stefanee Puchlopek, Zac Puchlopek, and Cody Goodale of Boulder Construction to talk about a company built on family roots, personal relationships, and a commitment to keeping the homebuilding process as transparent as it is meaningful. From a father's early days in the elevator business to a team that spans two generations of the same family, Boulder's story is one of legacy carried forward with intention.

Where It All Started
Boulder Construction did not begin with Stefanee, but it very much became hers.
"My dad started off in the elevator business, but then he branched out with my mom's brother to start a construction company," she explained. The business took shape doing spec homes before eventually expanding into commercial work and warehouses. Custom residential came later. "We didn't actually start into custom residential until I came on. He did a few, but he liked his spec homes."

After graduating high school, Stefanee made her own path clear. She earned a construction degree, then her commercial and residential license. The pull toward building was always there. "I just like the idea of building things. I took CAD, I like drawing, designing, kind of everything about it I liked."
Staying Intentionally Small
One of the most deliberate choices Stefanee has made for Boulder is about size.
"I don't think we'll ever expand to be a huge company just because we have more control over everything. We meet with the clients, we're on the job sites. That hands-on presence is not a preference so much as a promise. We want a Boulder customer to feel like they are involved in the process and there's no gray area."
That clarity and access shapes everything from the first conversation forward. And it is something every member of the Boulder team delivers on - not just the owner.
What to Expect When You Work With Boulder

Zac Puchlopek, Certified Building Contractor and Senior Project Manager, put it plainly when asked what a client can expect.
"Somebody can expect working with Boulder is an honest, upfront, and easy process."
For Zac, that means showing up in the ways that actually matter to people. "I believe in handshakes, phone calls, site meetings, FaceTime. Our clients pretty much turn into family." It is not a line. It is how Boulder operates, project after project, from the first meeting to the final walkthrough.

What Keeps It Meaningful
Cody Goodale, Certified Building Contractor and Site Foreman, described what draws him to the work every day.
"What I love about the projects is seeing the transformation over time from a grass or dirt lot to someone's home. I mean, it's a pretty impressive thing to watch from start to finish."
Beyond the physical transformation, Cody pointed to something that sets Boulder apart from larger operations. "I'd say Boulder's difference is the transparency in a sense. You're not dealing with a company where you can only talk to one person or you have to go online and fill out something. It's as at-home family feel as it can be. You can talk to me, you can talk to Zach or anybody in the company."

For Cody, who is Zac and Stefanee's nephew, that culture is also personal.
"It'd be important for me to carry on my aunt and my grandfather's legacy, in a sense, to keep it continuing and keep it the same at-home family feel."

A Team Built on Relationships
Zac returned to talk about the extended network of people that makes Boulder's work possible - and how those relationships are treated with the same care as the client ones.
"Our team outside of Boulder, like our vendors and subcontractors, is a great team. It's been built on relationships."
Among those relationships is one that goes back two decades. "One of our great individuals we deal with is Jeff Robbins at RoMac. And as we followed Jeff from multiple places, I'm very glad that he ended up at RoMac, because it's an amazing company. It takes care of their contractors very well. They always have your back. We've known Jeff for 20 years now."
Loyalty, for Boulder, runs in both directions.
"Basically our subcontractors, once you develop a relationship with us, you have to leave us before we leave you, as it's a sense of family. It's like an extended family." That openness extends to clients as well. "It shows with all of our clients that they meet every single one of our vendors through the process as well. Those are the relationships I like to make, and those are the relationships we have."
Custom, All the Way Through
Stefanee closed her portion of the conversation by coming back to what Boulder ultimately stands for.
"When you're in customs, it's anything the customer wants. And they're like family to us. So we want the house to be finished like it was our own home." The future of Boulder will likely include more commercial work and occasional spec builds, but the core will not change. "I will always do custom homes, as that is what we love to do."

The Moment That Makes It Worth It
Zac had the final word, and it was the right one.
"We take time for the details that are important to them. I love helping them design their forever homes. Watching their face when we walk in the last time and hand over the keys - it's always a special day for me, no matter the client, knowing that we did the best we could and they're very happy with the product."
That is Boulder Construction. A family that leads a team built on 20-year handshakes - all working toward the same moment at the end of every job.
This RoMac Builder's Spotlight highlights a builder whose business is grounded in relationships, transparency, and the belief that building someone's home is one of the most personal things you can do.
